Windows Phone Marketplace Available in Browser

After some months of (sometimes) suffering with Zune software, Microsoft finally released its marketplace for Windows Phone apps in a browser version. The URL http://www.windowsphone.com leads to a newly designed website with the red marketplace logo. Back in May, when Microsoft revealed the efforts of working on a browser version, the event was connected to the Windows Phone 7.5 Mango update, which was started yesterday.

The new website comes with a minimalistic Metro UI style, quite similar to the surface of Zune. The start screen shows a slideshow with several tabs for outstanding apps. Besides this feature the website contains of all elements that are familiar from Zune: search options for potential downloaders by category or genre, each app come with screenshots and user comments in order to provide user opinions about the app. Fortunately a huge number of apps is available as a free demo version or even free of charge in general. And you can easily browse free apps and games seperately.

As you know it from Zune, after logging in with your Windows Live account purchasing apps is very simple with a one-click event which automatically charges your credit card (which is mandatory in your Windows Live user profile). The purchased apps will download over the air directly to your Windows Phone. The process is very simple and easy to handle but beware!.. also provides the risk of spending long hours in the marketplace jungle and come out with a big position on your CC bill :-) .

Enjoy the new marketplace, we’re quite happy to get rid of Zune and only to use the web version.
If you’re new to the marketplace there’s a very helpful tips and tricks menue option.
